[My Review]

The Last Lie is a really fun read, full of twists and surprises and entertaining characters. It’s easy to read and, although some parts were quite obvious, this didn’t hamper my enjoyment of it at all.

The characters in this novel are such a mix, from those I truly hated with every fibre of my being to those I was rooting for throughout. The changes in perspective between him and Claire, with the reader never knowing exactly was in the driving seat and who was being played, is brilliant and so much fun to read. We hear a lot from Claire and then it’s just from Alfie for a while which left me wondering as to what had or hadn’t happened… The storyline actually weaves its way through various narratives, covering Claire, Alfie, the detective investigating the case and others, which added extra intrigue to the story.

The short chapters and fast pace kept me wanting to read more and the fact that I really wanted to know what had happened meant I got through this in a day. Some parts are perhaps over-explained to the reader but I found The Last Lie truly addictive reading and will definitely be reading other books by Alex Lake!

[Rating: 4/5]
